What’s In It?
2 oz. Plum Vodka, 2 oz. Cherry Pucker, splash of Orange Juice, splash of Triple Sec. Mix in a shaker with lots of ice. Top when finished with lime zest. Garnish with a plum slice. YES!
Where’d You Get It, Adam?
The world-famous Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park, NY, closed its doors on New Year’s Eve 2009 due to bankruptcy leading from the 2008 financial crisis.
In 1966, the then owner of Tavern on the Green, Werner LeRoy, opened a bevy of heavily designed bars based on what he felt were two of the big revolutions of the time: sex and food. The bar Maxwell’s Plum was one of them– it closed in 1988. The drink Maxwell’s Plum, however, remained a staple of Tavern on the Green since the other bar’s closure.
But What About Me?
No need to travel across the country and back in time now to get the Maxwell’s Plum, because financial crises have a two-fold effect, potential ruin and a more fortuitous one: a tendency for self-preservation. Just before the Tavern’s financial meltdown, the owners of the restaurant published a cookbook with some of their famous recipes. In this, they break down all their historical dishes and drinks. I really recommend taking a gander through the book. In the meantime, get down to BevMo, and have one of these in honor of the great, fallen restaurant.
