“Oh, What a Pear!” Martini
A while back I featured a drink called “Maxwell’s Plum,” a martini at the fabled, now shut Tavern on the Green in New York. The drink I feature today is a specialty order Tavern on the Green used to arrange for couples.
When someone was going to propose at the Tavern on the Green (and for New York elite, who wouldn’t want to?), they arranged with the bartender and waiter to have two of these drinks on hand for when she said yes (usually “she”; Tavern on the Green, unlike the the rest of the world, will never see “him” say yes).
I suppose this works out both ways because if she ever said “no,” the guy would have two tart drinks on hand to assuage the pain.
The drink is 5 oz. Pear Vodka, 1 oz. Pear Schnapps, 2 oz. pear nectar, dash of lime juice, and then you…yes…garnish with a pear slice.
If it sounds like too much pear, then get out, this drink isn’t for you.
I dedicate the drink I got on today to two lovely ladies: Becky Kirsch, who will be marrying her fiance Paul Sweeney this November, and to Tiffany Rose, designer of Stay On Fountain, who will be marrying her fiance Eric Gustafson next summer.
