The film score to “Danger Diabolik” is by Ennio Morricone, and without hyperbole, it is to me, the Holy Grail of Film Scores. You can’t find it anywhere, even at Amoeba Records on Sunset, and they’ve got everything. The 60′s movie is about an Italian James Bond/Superhero, and it’s a go-go masterpiece of bad kitschy cinema. It’s so big, this was the film lampooned in the final episode ever of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
The score (a familiar but unique romp) is lost to time and has fallen under the shadow of Morricone’s later (and some would say greater) efforts.
My entry today is a surf guitar riff on the spirit of that Italian trickster Diabolik by 60′s guru Mister Neutron. It’ll have to do.

I know this is an old article, but it’s nice to find another who appreciates this score! Absolutely one of Morricone’s best…and the sad thing is the original master tapes were destroyed in a fire years ago, so there can never be an official release…

That’s a tragedy! I will find this score. It is my life’s work.
