There is an album of instrumental Beatles covers done by Swedish guitarist Goran Sollscher (which I am spelling correctly, minus the two umlauts) that has captivated my artistic attention lately. I remembered first hearing this album in high school, when my art teacher Mrs. Sharon Asp would play this while we painted. It enriches the soul completely.
Now, I can’t stop listening to his version of “Because.” It’s small and sad, and the refrain at the end is even smaller, almost like a music box. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about justice. This song, I can’t explain why, makes me think of justice. Wrongdoings avenged behind closed doors, silently making the world safer. Justice and balance. Patience. The song requires patience and restraint. Listening to this song, I can’t shut my creative brain off. You won’t either, I’m guessing.
