Electric Light Orchestra has enjoyed a quiet little Indie renaissance this decade. It began for me when I heard my Dad’s cassettes way back when. Jump cut to 2003, when their fabulous “Mr. Blue Sky” was used to great effect in 21st Century Indie lynchpin “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”
My ELO repertoire has ballooned since then, most of all this gem, handpicked from a mix made me by Command-V runner and fellow Lost podcaster, Drew Hunter. It’s a high energy ditty, that I find very charming as it’s about a guy who makes a robot to act just like his lost love, but he grows tired of her. Plus, it’s got those awesome ELO techno beats that are both kitschy and hip.
